A total of 670 polling staff attended the second rehearsal for the forthcoming panchayat polls at Guru Nanak National College, Doraha, today. A helpline number has been issued to the staff in case of any poll related query.

Doraha Block Controlling Officer Chetan Bunger who closely supervised the conduct of the election process shared that a total of 670 polling staff attended the second rehearsal today. “A total of 150 polling parties have been formed while the actual requirement is of 95 parties meaning thereby that sufficient staff has been kept in reserve in case of emergency. Two strong rooms have been set up from where the material shall be dispatched and deposited back by the polling staff. Booth-level officers shall assure the convenience of the polling staff and keep in regular touch with the main office. Sector officers shall keep the Returning officers informed about each and every development in their respective village clusters.

The Controlling officer shared the conduct of panchayat elections was no doubt an extensive exercise. “Every official involved in the conduct of elections is not only required to work rigorously within the legal framework but also to ensure fairness and transparency till the culmination of the election process. Each and every major to minor aspect has to be minutely conducted and supervised. Meeting with contesting candidates and removing their misapprehensions apart from seeking their co-operation is also a part of their duty. Material required for each polling station, arranging for its delivery, arranging in advance for the return of the polling parties post-poll and the receipt of material after poll is also mandatory,” he shared.

“Since the entire polling staff is thoroughly engrossed in ensuring smooth conduct, we are in dire need of cooperation from all quarters including the candidates, their supporters and the villagers,” he asked.

“The staff shall be provided refreshment and lunch before leaving the college on October 14 and the future requirements till the culmination of polls shall be taken care of by the respective booth level officers,” the CO added.
