650 students get degrees at law convocation
Over 650 students were awarded degrees at the Panjab University's 6th Law Convocation here today. Justice BR Gavai, Judge, Supreme Court of India; Justice Surya Kant, Judge, Supreme Court of India; Justice Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice, Punjab and Haryana High Court, awarded the degrees followed by an academic procession and university anthem. Director, UILS, Prof Shruti Bedi and Prof Dr Vandana Arora, Chairperson, Department of Laws, felicitated the guests of honour. PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Renu Vig inaugurated the convocation.
She elaborated on the purpose of education, building a strong character, handling challenges of life and becoming financially independent.
In his address, Justice Gavai focused on championing justice for marginalised, the importance of hard work and motivated the students to aim for higher goals in life.
Justice Kant congratulated the students on the culmination of years of hard work and focused on the importance of working at the grassroots level in cultivating better professional skills.
Twin delight
It was a day to remember for identical twins Rima and Riya from Ambala. Even as Riya couldn’t make it to the convocation as she is abroad, Rima made sure her sister wasn’t missed. “Life has always been in a perfect alignment for us. Riya ranked 16 and I got 116th position. Teachers mixed us up all the time.
