64-year-old man stabbed to death at his home
A 64-year-old man was found dead under mysterious circumstances, with his throat slit and multiple stab wounds on his abdomen, at his residence in Panchsheel Park. There were no signs of forced entry, police officials said on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Rohit Kumar, a businessman. The incident occurred on November 25, but the police have not made any arrests so far.
According to police sources, Kumar lived on the ground floor of a three-storey house with his younger son, while the elder son and his family resided on the second floor. The third floor was vacant, as it had previously been rented out to tenants.
The incident came to light when the family’s car cleaner rang the doorbell for the keys. When the elder son opened the door to give the keys, he found his father lying on the floor.
The police were informed, and when they arrived, they found the man lying on the floor of his bedroom with stab wounds.
No old enmity is suspected, but sources revealed that the younger son was detained for questioning and later released.
“A murder case has been registered and further investigation is underway,” the DCP said.
The police confirmed that nothing was stolen, and there was no sign of ransacking, ruling out robbery as a motive.
A police officer said, prima facie, it appears to be a pre-planned murder. “The role of everyone is being verified. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory inspected the spot and found blood stains and footprints on the floor,” the officer added.
Sources said the elder son owns a restaurant in Hauz Khas, and the younger son is a musician who performs gigs. The police are currently analysing the CCTV footage and questioning family members.
