60 volunteers trained in disaster management
A three-day disaster management training programme organised by the District Disaster Management Authority of Mandi concluded yesterday at the Block Development Office, Sundernagar.
The programme, aimed at enhancing preparedness against disaster risks, was attended by nearly 60 volunteers from Chhatar, Bhor, Dugraian and Kanaid panchayats in the Sundernagar subdivision. The closing ceremony was presided over by Subdivisional Magistrate Amar Negi.
During the final day of the programme, SDM Amar Negi distributed certificates of appreciation to the participants. In his address, he emphasised the importance of awareness in reducing the impact of natural disasters. He stated that when people were educated about the different types of natural calamities, the loss of life and property can be minimised.
The purpose of the training, according to Negi, was to equip volunteers to form a task force capable of reducing disaster-related damages , besides ensuring that in case of an emergency lives can be saved by reducing risks in the shortest possible time.
