The SGPC-run Sri Guru Ram Das University of Health Sciences held its first convocation ceremony on Friday in which 542 graduates and post-graduates were awarded degrees. Governor Gulab Chand Kataria was the chief guest at the convocation while SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami was the guest of honour. The convocation ceremony commenced with a formal academic procession. Following the rendition of the national anthem, Vice-Chancellor Dr Manjit Singh Uppal extended a warm welcome to the esteemed dignitaries present.

Kataria presented degrees to 300 graduates of MBBS and 242 post-graduates of MD/MS. The event was made even more meaningful by an oath-taking ceremony conducted by Dr Anupama Mahajan, Director- Principal, who emphasised the graduates’ commitment to their noble profession in the healthcare sector.

The Governor said that 60 per cent of girl students in India excelled in studies, demonstrating that girls in the country are making significant strides and are on par with their peers.

Harjinder Singh Dhami spoke about the institution’s evolution and progress and underscored the university’s commitment to upholding rigorous academic excellence, drawing attention to the outstanding achievements of its students, who proudly attained a remarkable 100 per cent placement rate in prestigious healthcare organisations both within the country and abroad.

Dr AP Singh, dean of the university, in his address, highlighted the importance of lifelong learning in the dynamic healthcare landscape. As the new physicians prepared to start their careers, he urged them to avoid complacency and continually enhance their knowledge and skills.
