52 bulk generators issued notices for flouting waste management norms in Gurugram
The monitoring cell constituted to identify and monitor the bulk waste generators (BWGs) in all four zones of the Municipal Corporation, Gurugram (MCG), has issued notices to 52 such generators in the past one week for flouting the Solid Waste Management Rules.
MCG Additional Commissioner Balpreet Singh said it was mandatory for all BWGs located within the limits of the civic body to dispose of the waste generated by them at their own level within their premises. Under this, the BWGs should first separate wet, dry and household hazardous waste and ensure its disposal separately.
He said compost or biogas could be made from wet waste and dry and hazardous waste must be
disposed of through the recyclers.
“These are mandatory provisions for all BWGs under the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016,” he said. He said the BWG monitoring cell had been formed to check the BWGs and ensure the compliance of the waste management rules since a majority of them were not following them.
He said, “Colonel Sanjay Pandey (retired) has been appointed as the chief officer of the monitoring cell and four inspectors have been attached with him to monitor the four zones.”
This monitoring cell has inspected at least 70 BWGs in the last one week, out of which, notices have been issued to 52 BWGs for non-compliance of rules.
Along with this, the registration of 27 new BWGs had also been carried out by the cell on the online portal operated by the civic body, he added.
