Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigations had revealed that Jota Singh and Harpreet Singh were in touch with Pakistan-based drug smugglers. They were using drones to transport drugs from across the border.

Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the Chheharta police received a tipoff that some persons had received a huge consignment of narcotics dropped via drone from across the border and concealed it at their house in New Ajnala Colony.

“The police swung into action and arrested the accused from a house in New Ajnala Colony. Besides the contraband and drug money, the police teams also impounded their car and a motorcycle,” he said.

The police Commissioner said the accused had links with Pakistan-based smuggler Ali who had been pushing drugs into India using drones. The seized drug consignment was also delivered using a drone. “The police have identified their accomplices who used to receive drugs from them. Efforts are on to nab them,” said Bhullar.

A case under Section 21-C of the NDPS Act has been registered at the Chheharta police station in Amritsar and further probe is on.
