5 armed robbers loot Rs 24 lakh from bank in Amritsar village
Five armed robbers looted Rs 24 lakh from an HDFC bank in Majhwind village near Kathunangal in broad daylight today.
Around 3 pm, the robbers, three of whom were armed with pistols, arrived on two bikes, their faces covered. They detained the unarmed guard, cashier, staff, and customers at gunpoint.
The robbers entered the bank, took the guard and staff hostage, and threatened the cashier, demanding all the cash. Within minutes, they grabbed the cash and fled, putting the bank’s shutters down.
The bank authorities informed the police at 3.30 pm, prompting senior police authorities, led by Amritsar Rural SSP Charanjit Singh and SP (D) Harinder Singh Gill, to investigate.
Police teams are scanning nearby CCTV footage for clues. The robbers also took three mobile phones, laptops, and the bank’s digital video recorder but dropped the mobile phones and laptops near the scene.
SSP Charanjit Singh said, “Had the bank staff informed us promptly, we could have taken timely action and apprehended the robbers.” He assured that the police would soon arrest the culprits.
