Rs 5.31-crore project to record milk output of HF cows
In order to boost profitability of dairy farmers, the Punjab Government is all set to initiate a project to identify and establish milk recording potential of Holstein Friesian (HF) cows.
Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian said Rs 5.31 crore project would be kicked off in the first week of December. He said project supervisors along with staff from the Animal Husbandry Department would identify eligible HF breed cows for milk recording.
He added that around 13,000 HF breed cows’ milk production would be recorded in 90 villages of three districts, including Ludhiana, Moga and Fatehgarh Sahib from 2024 to 2026.
“Farmers will milk selected cows at their homes with a recorder provided to collect data on milk output using a GPS-enabled smart weighing scale,” said the minister.
“This data will be automatically uploaded to the national database, making it accessible to farmers, government agencies and other stakeholders across the nation. Complete milk recording will take place two-three times a day, depending on the farmers’ convenience for a duration of 10 months,” he added.
