Under the Har Ghar Paani, Har Ghar Safai mission, the Department of Water Supply and Sanitation (DWSS) organised an online awareness workshop on menstrual hygiene management from Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration today.

The workshop imparted training to Panchayati Raj institutions, including woman sarpanchs, panches, anganwadi workers and district sanitation teams working in villages regarding safe menstrual hygiene management practices. As many as 450 persons participated in the workshop.

Parneet Shergill, Mission Director, Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen), asked participants to break taboos related to menstrual hygiene. She insisted that girls must be provided accurate information and improved sanitation facilities in schools to manage their hygiene, particularly during their menstrual period.

Dr Ravindra Khaiwal, Additional Professor, Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGI, said it was our collective responsibility to ensure that every girl was equipped with accurate information on menstruation as a normal biological process. Sarbjit Singh, sub-divisional engineer (sanitation), talked about sanitation initiatives being taken by the DWSS in rural schools and anganwadis.—TNS
