45-year-old gets new lease of life in Nurpur
A team of doctors and supporting staff at Civil Hospital, Nurpur, performed the first major ENT surgery, giving a 45-year-old male patient a new lease of life.
The team, led by ENT specialist Dr Akriti, successfully performed Superficial Parotidectomy — a complex procedure.
Superficial Parotidectomy is a surgical procedure in which the outer portion of the parotid gland is removed.
The parotid gland is a major salivary gland located near the mouth, primarily responsible for producing saliva that helps in chewing.
While treating parotid gland tumours, the facial nerve, which is located nearby, is generally identified and preserved during the surgical procedure.
As per information, the surgery was performed on November 26, and the patient, who hails from the nearby Chinva village, was discharged from the hospital today.
Dr Akriti said the patient an ultrasound and fine needle aspiration cytology diagnosed Pleomorphic Adenoma in the patient.
The patient had been admitted to the hospital two days before surgery, and was discharged with no post-surgery complications on Friday, she added. Such major surgeries are mostly performed in medical colleges, and this marks the first time that such a surgery was performed at the civil hospital here.
In private hospitals, such surgeries cost the patient over Rs 1 lakh.
The complex surgery took around three hours, after general anaesthesia was given to the patient. The hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Dr Dilwar Singh, said the patient had availed the cashless medical treatment facility through HIMCARE.
At the hospital, other general surgeries — including knee and hip replacements and caesarean deliveries — were also performed, he added, suggesting patients to avail the cashless treatment facility using their HIMCARE cards.
