43% healthcare, frontline workers get jab in Mohali

About 43 per cent healthcare and frontline workers have been given Covishield jabs at vaccination centres in Mohali district since the launch of the vaccination programme on January 16.
Of the 11,284 healthcare workers (HCWs), 4,661 have been vaccinated. As many as 406 frontline workers, including officials of the police, revenue and other departments, have got the vaccine shot.

Civil Surgeon Dr Adarsh Pal Kaur said there was some apprehension about the side-effects of the vaccine among healthcare workers at the initial stage and only few came forward for vaccination. She said the number had increased now considerably. On an average, about 200 healthcare and frontline workers were coming daily for vaccination. The vaccine was being administered at the Mohali Civil Hospital and health centres at Banur, Zirakpur, Dera Bassi and Kharar.
Dr Adarsh Pal Kaur said 40 HCWs who were administered the vaccine today included doctors, nurses and office staff of government hospitals in the district. She said 32 HCWs were administered vaccine at the Civil Hospital in Phase 6 here, while eight of them were given the shot at the Community Health Centre, Banur.
The Civil Surgeon said after the vaccination of 11,284 HCWs and other frontline workers in the district, the drive would be carried out for senior citizens and Army and defence personnel.
The health authorities have set up eight Covid-19 vaccination centres in the district – Zirakpur, Kharar, Dera Bassi, Banur, Lalru, Nayagaon, Kurali and Mohali. Six persons would be vaccinated per hour as it takes 10 minutes to vaccinate a person and every beneficiary has to be kept under observation for about half an hour to monitor Adverse Event Following Immunisation (AEFI), if any.
