421 heavy vehicles fined for lane, speed violations in Palwal
On Saturday, the district traffic police issued challans to 421 heavy vehicles, including trucks, as part of a special drive targeting violations related to wrong lane driving and speed limits on major roads and highways.
A police department spokesperson, Sanjay Kumar, said the drive was carried out by traffic police teams under the leadership of SHO Jitender Kumar. The vehicles were penalised were found to be driving in the left lane, which had been designated by the traffic department for safety purposes. Kumar said the lane was intended to prevent accidents and ensure smoother traffic flow.
Kumar said the drive was initiated in response to numerous complaints about heavy vehicles violating lane discipline. The goal, he said, was to discipline offenders and foster better road behaviour.
"We have instructed traffic officers to ensure heavy vehicles remain in the left lane so faster-moving light vehicles may overtake them without hassle. Any vehicle found violating lane rules or exceeding speed limits will be penalised," Kumar said.
He emphasized it was mandatory for heavy vehicles to drive in the left lane and adhere to speed limits, as per Part 5, Section 4 of the Motor Vehicles Act 2017. This is crucial to reduce the risk of accidents, he added and confirmed the campaign against such violations would continue indefinitely.
