The Regional Office of the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) has sealed 41 factories operating illegally in various villages of Bahadurgarh. Plastic products were being melted in these units.

Sources said electricity connection of all such units had been disconnected while the process to impose a penalty on them had also been initiated. The action was taken when a joint team of HSPCB, UHBVN, Police Town and Country Planning and Panchayat Departments conducted inspection of the factories on Friday.

“It is being investigated for how long these units were being operated and from where the plastic products were being brought here to melt and who are the owners of these units, so as to take further action into the matter,” said an official on anonymity.

Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya has issued orders prohibiting such illegal industrial activities, including burning plastic or waste in residential or agriculture areas and the use of electricity connection for illegal industrial activities without prior permission of the HSPCB in villages Parnala, Nijampur road, Bamnoli, Kanonda, Kherpur, Ladrawan, Siddhipur, Lowa Kalan and Lowa Khurd. The orders will remain in force for the next two months.

Amit Kumar, a team member and Assistant Environmental Engineer, HSPCB, said names of the factory owners had been ascertained on the basis of electricity connections so that penalty could be imposed upon them for operating the factories illegally.

“Since burning of solid waste is prohibited under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), appropriate action will also be taken for violations of the GRAP guidelines,” he added.
