400 farmers attend Saraswati Mill’s cane conference

The Saraswati Sugar Mills (SSM) organised a cane conference and award distribution ceremony on its premises in Yamunanagar.

The chief guest of the programme was Indian scientist and Padma Shri awarde, Dr Bakshi Ram.

DP Singh, senior vice-president (cane) of the SSM, said that the programme was attended by about 400 farmers from the region.

He said the event included an award distribution ceremony for farmers, who supplied 85 per cent or more of their bonded cane to the mill in the previous season.

He said Aditya Puri, managing director of the SSM, Nayna Puri ,and SK Sachdeva, chief executive officer of the SSM, distributed the prizes.

He further said Joginder Singh from Dadupur village won the bumper prize of a Honda Activa.

He added that additionally, Om Prakash, Chetan Das, Sandeep, Raj Kumar, Joginder, Pradeep and other farmers received a total of 25 prizes worth lakhs of rupees.

“Earlier in April, the SSM launched the “Saraswati Cane Grower Registration Scheme” for the upcoming 2024-25 season. Under the scheme, the farmers, who supplied 85 per cent or more of their total cane production to the SSM, would receive a 20 per cent subsidy on all types of pesticides,” said DP Singh.

He said additionally, the farmers who increased their cane cultivation area and supplied their entire produce to the mill would be eligible for a cane planting subsidy of Rs 5,000 per acre.

SK Sachdeva, chief executive officer of the SSM, said the Saraswati Sugar Mill was India’s oldest sugar mill, known for its efficient operations and ethical values in its working area.
