Chandigarh: 4 posts declared ‘sensitive’ in Education Department

The UT Education Department has declared four posts as ‘sensitive’ in compliance with the instructions of the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).

“In compliance with the instructions of a CVC circular and as per the instructions of the Vigilance Department, Chandigarh Administration, the posts of Director, School Education; Deputy Directors I, II, III and IV; District Education Officer (DEO); Deputy District Education Officer (DDEO) and principals have been identified as sensitive posts,” stated the order.

“This is the first time that these posts have been declared sensitive. We will be reviewing and taking appropriate action,” said Harsuhindar Pal Singh Brar, Director, School Education. As per the order, guidelines of the Vigilance Department (2013 circular) have been referred to bring the posts under ‘sensitive’ posts category.

As per the rules (referenced in the order), ministries, departments, organisations and chief vigilance officers (CVOs) identify sensitive posts and ensure that they are strictly rotated every two to three years to prevent the development of vested interests.

“The commission in the superintendence of vigilance administration over the years has observed that such rational transfers are not affected in many organisations due to which officials continue to remain on the same post for a long period. Such overstay develop vested interests. The commission emphasised periodical rotation of officials holding sensitive posts. Head CVOs of all departments are advised to ensure the implementation of the orders,” read the CVC circular.

There are a total of 111 government schools, including, three primary, 11 middle, 54 high and 43 senior secondary in Chandigarh.
