In a crackdown on drug smuggling, the Jalandhar Police Commissionerate has dismantled a heroin smuggling ring, arresting four individuals and seizing 250 gram of heroin. The operation was led by Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma.
Acting on a tip-off about heroin smuggling activities in the city, the police laid a trap near Y-Point Harnam-Daspura. During the operation, a suspect, identified as Sunny Vehmi, was arrested. Sunny, a resident of Kishanpura, Jalandhar, was found carrying 100 gram of heroin.
Following his arrest, an FIR was registered under the NDPS Act. During the investigation, three additional suspects were identified — Honey Kalyan of Abadpura and brothers Money and Neeraj Sabharwal of Basti Gujjan, Jalandhar. The police arrested the trio, recovering 100 gram of heroin from Honey Kalyan and 50 gram from Money Sabharwal.
Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma disclosed that the arrested individuals had criminal records. Two cases are pending against Sunny and Honey, while Money Sabharwal faced four cases. Neeraj Sabharwal, however, had no prior criminal history.
He said investigations were underway, with the police determined to root out drug-related activities in the city. Commissioner Sharma reaffirmed the police’s commitment to eradicating the drug menace in Jalandhar, saying that further details like from where they procured heroin and whom they were going to deliver and others involved in this smuggling would be shared as the investigation progressed.
