New Delhi, September 2

Four illegal dyeing units operating in the Matiala area were sealed after a complaint was raised on X highlighting their contribution to pollution in the Yamuna and illegal extraction of groundwater, Raj Niwas officials said on Monday.

The action was taken under the directions of Lieutenant-Governor (L-G) VK Saxena after he took cognisance of the video where he was tagged along with various Delhi Government officials, including ministers Gopal Rai and Saurabh Bharadwaj.

Subsequently, the L-G directed officials from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Delhi Police and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to conduct an immediate inspection of the area, officials said.

“A joint inspection drive was carried out on Sunday which revealed that four illegal jeans dyeing units operating without the necessary permissions from the MCD and DPCC,” they said.

Since the area is designated as non-industrial under the Delhi Master Plan, such activities were strictly prohibited, officials said.

In line with the L-G’s directives, all four units were sealed, with raw materials seized and transported to the MCD zonal office.

Praising the efforts of the vigilant citizen who brought this issue to light, Saxena reiterated the importance of public involvement in governance.
