Rs 32.95 cr tenders released for waste collection in Faridabad
The Municipal Corporation, Faridabad (MCF), has released tenders worth Rs 32.95 crore for door-to-door collection of garbage in the city. These tenders will be valid for five years.
The tenders are likely to be opened on October 22, while the work on the ground is likely to begin by the end of this month, according to sources in the civic body. These will be meant for the work pertaining to the collection of waste from households and transportation to the transfer stations.
It is learnt that separate contracts would be awarded for the taking waste from transfer stations to the processing centres or the final dumping points.
Around 1,050 tonnes of waste is churned out daily within the civic limits. For the collection and disposal of the civic waste on a regular basis, the state government had recently directed the MCF to issue fresh tenders for awarding contracts.
According to the new contract, the MCF will have to collect user charges fromresidents and pay contractors engaged for the collection and disposal of waste in the city. The civic body has been asked to include waste collection charges in the house tax or property tax collected from the residents.
Notably, locals, who had been paying money to private individuals for the disposal of daily waste, will now be required to shell out certain amount for the civic body. The charges are expected to be finalised soon.
The problem of garbage lying across the city had exacerbated after the contract signed between the Faridabad civic body and a Chinese company in 2017, was terminated in February this year over poor work.
Subsequently, the MC had resorted to hiring local contractors for the disposal of garbage.
Claiming that the new contract will help to streamline the work of collection and disposal in a better manner, an official on condition of anonymity said the process had been halted due to various factors, including the election process.
It may be recalled that waste collection work was being mainly done by private individuals, who were disposing the collected waste at transfer stations, although a separate contract was awarded for garbage disposal from these transfer stations. The daily waste was disposed of at various spots, including the two processing plants at Pratapgarh and Mujeri villages, and the landfill site at Bandhwari village.
MCF Executive Engineer Padam Bhushan said the tenders for all the four zones of the city were set to open soon to begin the door-to-door collection of waste within all four zones in the civic limits of the MCF.
