The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police have thwarted three targeted killings by arresting five operatives of the Bambiha-Kaushal gang. Confirming the development, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said the arrests were part of an intensified drive to eliminate organised crime in the state, as directed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.

Those arrested were identified as Jaspreet Singh, alias Jassa, of Boparai Kalan in Jalandhar; Harshdeep Singh of Garage Mehdood in Hoshiarpur; Shekhar of Muradpur in Tarn Taran; Gagandeep Singh, alias Ginni Bajwa, of New Model Town in Jalandhar; and Amit Sahota of Bambian Wal in Jalandhar.

Nine weapons, including eight pistols and one revolver, along with 15 live cartridges, were seized during the operation.

The DGP said the accused were involved in a series of serious offences, such as extortion, murder and arms trafficking. Several criminal cases were already registered against them.

Jalandhar Commissioner of Police (CP) Swapan Sharma provided additional details about the operation, stating that police teams had set up checkpoints based on intelligence inputs that gang members were planning a major crime. Three individuals, including Jaspreet Jassa, Harshdeep and Shekhar, were apprehended at the BSF Chowk here and six weapons seized from their possession.

Further investigations led to the arrest of Gagandeep Ginni and Amit Sahota at a checkpoint near Bhargo camp. Three weapons were seized from them.

CP Sharma said investigations were still on and more arrests were likely as the police went ahead with dismantling the gang’s complete network. He said two cases had been registered under the Arms Act at the New Baradari police station and the Bhargo Camp police station.
