Abohar, August 12

Three members of a family, including a 3-year-old child, died after their car fell into the Indira Gandhi Canal near Tibbi in Hanumangarh on Monday.

The deceased have been identified as Maulvi Marbub Alam, his son Mohammad Sanib and grandson Hasnain, 3, of Rathikhera village.

A team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was roped in to fish out the bodies. The authorities also took assistance of divers from Surewala and Masani villages.

As the SDRF team pulled out the ill-fated vehicle, bodies of all three car occupants were found inside. The police said the bodies were handed over to the family after the post-mortem examination.

According to an eyewitness, the person behind the wheel was clicking photos with a cellphone, when the car suddenly picked up the speed and went out of control.
