Three armed persons fired several gunshots at the residence of Jasdeep Singh, a resident of Sundar Nagar area, here on Friday night.

The incident occurred when the family was sleeping in the house. The accused fled the scene on the scooter. The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras. Police officials reached the spot and started investigations.

According to information, the victim had received death threats from unknown persons around six months ago. The police said a case has been registered and further probe was on to identify the suspects and arrest them. The police are working on different theories, including extortion by gangsters or personal enmity.

Jasdeep Singh owns a soda-manufacturing unit located near Rambagh area.

As per details, three persons came on a scooter and two of them alighted and came in front of Jasdeep Singh’s house while one of their accomplices kept the scooter on. After firing shots at the gate of the house, they fled the scene. The incident led to panic in the area and among the family members of the victim, who raised an alarm and called the police.

Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said police teams were analysing CCTV cameras and working on different theories to crack the case.

“The criminal would not be let go scot-free. They would be arrested soon,” said Bhullar.

Meanwhile, the Amritsar Rural Police booked two unknown persons in separate incidents for firing in air thereby leading to panic in Lopoke area.

Two persons were booked after their video of firing in air went viral on social media. One of the suspects was later identified as Manjinder Singh, alias Koki, of Kiragarh area. He fled the spot after committing the crime. In the second incident, an unknown person indulged in firing after the panchayat poll counting at Chogawan.

The police said after the counting of votes in the panchayat polls on October 15, an unknown person indulged in firing in air with a .315 bore rifle while a Sikh youth was filming it. After the video went viral, the police registered a case.
