Four members of a family, including three minors, lost their lives due to suspected food poisoning in Rajouri district on Sunday.

The victims — 40-year-old Fazal Hussain, his 38-year-old wife Shamim Akhtar, and their four children from Badhal Goral village were admitted to the Rajouri Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) late on Saturday after experiencing continuous vomiting and loose motions. Doctors indicated that it appeared to be a case of food poisoning.

As their condition deteriorated, they were referred to Jammu GMCH for further treatment. However, Fazal, three of his children—Rabia Kauser (15), Farmana Kauser (12) and 4-year-old son Raftar Ahmed—succumbed to the condition. Shamim Akhtar and her other daughter, Ruksar Kauser (12), are still undergoing treatment. The police have initiated inquest proceedings into the incident.
