Acting under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), the Haryana State Legal Services Authority (HALSA) organised the 4th National Lok Adalat today where 4.84 lakh cases were taken up.
The National Lok Adalat was organized in all 22 districts and 34 sub-divisions of Haryana through the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) by way of constituting 165 benches for both pre-litigation and pending court cases.
A wide array of cases from various categories, including civil, matrimonial, motor accident claims, bank recovery, cheque bounce, traffic challans, compoundable criminal cases, etc. and Permanent Lok Adalats (Public Utility Services) working in the ADR Centres numbering more than 4,83,823 were referred to the Lok Adalat benches for settlement by way of mutual consent.
The purpose of holding National Lok Adalat is to provide a platform to the litigants to settle their disputes amicably without any delay, while the award of Lok Adalat is final and there is a provision for refund of court fees in case of settlement in Lok Adalat.
Surya Partap Singh, Learned District and Sessions Judge-cum-Member Secretary, HALSA, informed that in today’s National Lok Adalat, including Pre-Lok Adalat sittings, 3,65,432 cases involving Rs 159.29 crore were disposed of.
The maximum 22 benches were set up in Gurugram, where 60,520 cases were taken up and 55,635 were disposed; the settlement amount involved was Rs 13.50 crore. Seventeen benches were set up in Faridabad where 42,164 of 50,837 cases, involving a settlement amount of Rs 6.10 crore, were disposed of. In Panipat, 34,369 cases were taken up, of which 27,542 were settled.
