Deputy Commissioner Rupnagar Himanshu Jain said the purchase of paddy in markets had gained momentum, resulting in an increase in its daily arrival. He said on Wednesday, 4,947 metric tonnes (MT) of paddy arrived in all markets of Mohali district.

So far, 2,834 MT of paddy has been purchased by agencies and 6 MT by others. Pungrain procured 1,290 MT paddy while 546 MT was purchased by Markfed and 484 MT by Punsup.

He also directed the farmers to ensure proper management of stubble. “Burning of crop residue pollutes the environment and reduces the land fertility,” he said, adding that proper management of crop residue also increased crop yield and farmers did not have to use unnecessary fertilisers.
