27 arrested in cybercrime cases in Faridabad

The police have arrested 27 persons in connection with 12 cybercrime cases resolved over the past week. They recovered Rs 4.95 lakh in cash and freezed Rs 32,199 in the accused’s bank accounts. Additionally, Rs 6.32 lakh has been refunded to victims during this period.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Cybercrime) Abhimanyu Goyat said the arrests were made in cases registered at the Central, NIT and Ballabhgarh cyber police stations. The accused were arrested from Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

Of the 12 resolved cases, five were handled by the Ballabhgarh cyber police, four by the Central cyber police and three by the NIT cyber cell. In total, 104 complaints were addressed, resulting in refunds amounting to Rs 6,32,999 during the investigation.

Goyat explained that the accused used various online schemes to deceive victims, including Telegram-based tasks, fake investment offers promising high returns and posing as customer care executives to send fraudulent links or OTPs.

They also engaged in blackmail through obscene videos, demanded payments via QR codes or UPI and tricked victims into sharing OTPs under the guise of being bank officials.

Other scams involved fake messages for payment or clearance of utility and property tax bills. Goyat urged residents not to share personal or account details over the phone and to avoid downloading unverified links.

Victims of cybercrime are advised to report incidents immediately via the helpline 1930 or at cybercrime.gov.in. Prompt reporting helps freeze cybercriminals’ accounts and facilitates refunds to victims.
