Nearly 25,000 farmers have not received instalments under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme because of the pending KYC and land seedings.

In Jalandhar, there are over 50,000 beneficiaries under the scheme. The scheme was started in 2019 for the marginal farmers.

They receive Rs 6,000 in a year — Rs 2,000 after every four months. Department officials said majority of them were asked to do e-KYC and the remaining had to complete the process of land seeding.

The farmers have been making rounds of the Agriculture Department and every agricultural camp to know the status of their instalments.

A group of about 35 farmers enquired about their instalments under the scheme to department officials at the block level awareness programme for the farmers on Wednesday.

The camp was held at Jamsher village. They carried their documents and were asking why they didn’t receive the instalments under the scheme.

Teja Singh, a farmer in his 70s, said he visited the camp to know why wasn’t he got the amount. “The officials here have guided us,” he said.

Chief Agriculture Officer Jaswant Rai said village level camps were being organised by the department where the farmers could contact the officials. “The nodal officers have been appointed at the village level to address the issue. The farmers are being guided by the officials,” he said.

Another official added, “There are some farmers who have been found to be non eligible too as they do farming on more than 10 acres. They did receive a few instalments, but, then on checking, they were found ineligible under the scheme.”
