About 8-10 lakh devotees come for the mela every year from Punjab, Haryana and other states of the country to take a dip in three holy sarovers -- Kapal Mochan, Rin Mochan and Suraj Kund on the occasion of Kartik Purnima.

Superintendent of Police Rajiv Deswal said the police would make fool-proof security arrangements for the safety of pilgrims.

He said the police would also focus on traffic management so that pilgrims didn’t have to face traffic jams.

“Our aim is to ensure the smooth conduct of the mela. Special attention shall be given to the safety of pilgrims. Patrolling and checking drives will also be undertaken,” said SP Rajiv Deswal.

Deputy Commissioner Capt Manoj Kumar said the exhibition and cultural programme of the mela would be formally inaugurated on November 11.

He said that he had held a meeting with officers of the district administration on Wednesday and asked them to complete arrangements by November 10.

He said all officers and employees posted on mela duty would remain on duty till November 16 and no negligence would be tolerated.

He reviewed arrangements related to cleanliness, medical facility, temporary toilets, drinking water, repair of roads, electricity service, food items, milk supply, barricading, etc.

He said that exhibition stalls would be set up by various departments on the mela site.

“Information about the achievements of the state government will be given in the exhibition. A cultural stage will also be built in the middle of the exhibition site from where artistes of the Public Relations department will entertain devotees visiting the mela through religious songs, bhajans and folk songs,” said Kumar.

He instructed the police officers to ensure special checks against drugs and intoxicants during the fair.

Capt Manoj Kumar, along with SP Rajiv Deswal, ADC Ayush Sinha, Bilaspur SDM-cum-Mela Administrator Jaspal Singh Gill and other officers, inspected the mela premises and took stock of the preparations of the mela.
