Rs 25 lakh project to clean sewer lines at Pratapgarh village

The work of cleaning and ensuring the connectivity of the sewer lines for the discharge of the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at Pratapgarh village is expected to cost Rs 25 lakh.

According to sources in the Faridabad Metropolitan Development Authority (FMDA), the sewer lines connected to the STP in Pratapgarh village span around 70 km, and tenders amounting to nearly Rs 25 lakh have been floated for the work. The FMDA took up the task a few months ago.

While the total capacity of the newly upgraded STP in Pratapgarh is around 100 MLD, it currently receives less than 40 per cent of its discharge capacity. The cleaning work will help increase the discharge to the STP, ultimately unclogging the network.

“The primary issue with the STP’s partial functioning is the low discharge of untreated waste, caused by the severe choking of the majority of the sewer lines, including the main trunk line,” said a civic administration official. He added that the lack of proper and regular cleaning of the lines had led to overflowing and waterlogging during the monsoon season.

Currently, up to 70 per cent of the waste is being discharged into drains and canals. The authorities have stated that while the cleaning work of the sewer lines is still in its early stages, the FMDA plans to clean the main lines, which stretch over 99 km, within a year. Over 28 km of lines have already been cleaned as part of the special drive.

The project, estimated to cost around Rs 25 crore, was initiated nearly seven months ago. The department is also working on connecting the main sewer lines to address the ongoing issues of choking and overflow, according to officials.

FMDA Chief Engineer Vishal Bansal confirmed that the project to clean some of the main drains and sewer lines was taken up in accordance with the state government’s instructions. He stated that the department is proceeding as per the plan developed for the initiative.
