The death of 23-year-old Simranjit Kaur, who was allegedly killed in Canada on December 14, has sent shockwaves in her family and across her native village Thaska Miranji in Kurukshetra.

As per information, Simranjit Kaur had gone to Canada on a study visa about two years ago and was reportedly living in a rented accommodation, where she was attacked with sharp-edged weapons by miscreants.

While her family members are inconsolable, village residents have requested the government to make arrangements to bring her body to India at the earliest.

Sarpanch Meena Kumari said, “Simranjit belonged to a middle-class family and had gone to Canada on a study visa. The village stands firmly with the family, and we appeal to the Haryana Government to support them.”

Former sarpanch Dilbagh Singh said, “The family is not financially strong. Her brother is in the US. We are in touch with some organisations in Canada, but there hasn’t been much information so far about the incident. Another student has suffered serious injuries in the incident. The government should bring back her body for cremation.”
