The Jalandhar Rural Police also conducted a district-wide cordon and search operation (CASO) today, leading to major recoveries of drugs and other contraband. The operation, held between 11 am and 3 pm, was led by Additional DGP, PAP, MF Farooqui, along with the SSP of Jalandhar Rural Police Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh.

The CASO resulted in 22 FIRs being registered and 28 individuals being arrested. Police teams searched multiple locations, recovering 28 gram of heroin, 665 intoxicant tablets, 7,84,000 ml of illicit liquor, 200 kg of lahan and two working stills. Six mobile phones and two stolen motorcycles were also recovered during the operation.

The operation was carefully planned, with DSP-rank officers supervising activities in each police station, while four SPs managed different sub-divisions. A total of 26 Rural Rapid Response Vehicles were deployed to ensure quick action in areas identified as high-risk.

Meanwhile, in a crackdown on street crime and drug-related offences, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police, led by Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma and DIG S Bhoopati, conducted a major CASO across 25 locations in the city today.

Over 500 police personnel were deployed to target hot spots known for frequent complaints of petty crimes and drug activities.

Police officials said intensive checks were carried out at key areas such as the bus stand, religious places and other identified hot spots. The operation was planned through comprehensive crime mapping, identifying notorious criminals and drug dealers.

During the operation, eight suspects were detained and significant recoveries were made.

They said as a result of the operation, five cases were registered under the NDPS Act and one under the Excise Act. Eight suspects were arrested, with two arrests being made in the Central subdivision and rest in the West subdivision, which included arrests in Division 5, Basti Bawa Khel and Bhargo Camp police stations. The recoveries included 122 gram of heroin and 24 bottles of liquor.
