The nomination process concluded with a total of 219 candidates filing papers for the 50 wards of the Phagwara Municipal Corporation.

Nominations were also filed for Nagar Panchayat elections. While 33 candidates filed papers for the Dhilwan poll, 41 submitted their nominations for Nadala Nagar Panchayat poll, 44 for Bholath and 39 for Begowal. The polling will take place on December 21 and the results will be out on the same day.

Election observers Sandeep Hans and Babeeta Kler today reached Kapurthala to oversee the upcoming MC and Nagar Panchayat elections.

The Punjab State Election Commission has designated Hans as the observer for elections to Nagar Panchayats in Begowal, Bholath, Nadala, and Dhilwan, and Kler for the Phagwara MC elections.

Hans held a meeting with Deputy Commissioner (DC) Amit Kumar Panchal and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Toora to review the preparations for the elections.

He assessed arrangements for electoral rolls, training of polling staff, security measures and the management of strong rooms.DC

Panchal said the district administration had made comprehensive arrangements to ensure a free and fair election. “We have a detailed plan in place for the training of poll staff for the smooth conduct of the elections,” the Deputy Commissioner said.
