An official spokesperson of the State Election Commission today said 20,147 aspirants for the post of sarpanch withdrew their nominations on October 7 for the panchayat poll. Similarly, 31,381 hopefuls for the post of panch withdrew their papers.

The spokesperson said the total nominations after withdrawal for sarpanches were 25,588 and 80,598 for panches. He said the data had been compiled on the basis of reports received from the Deputy Commissioners-cum-District Election Officers.

Besides, 3,798 aspirants had been elected unopposed as sarpanches and 48,861 panches had been elected unanimously across the state.
