Rs 20 lakh facade lighting at Kaza monastery to promote tourism
Lahaul and Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana inaugurated a facade lighting project at the Kaza Monastery in the district. The project costing Rs 20 lakh aims to enhance the monastery’s aesthetics and functioning during night.
The facade lighting at the monastery is expected to not only illuminate the area but also attract more tourists, thus promoting the cultural heritage of the region. As the monastery is an important spiritual and cultural hub, the lighting initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing its visibility and accessibility for both locals and visitors.

The MLA emphasised the importance of the newly installed lights. She said that the facade lighting would provide ample illumination at night, making the monastery not only safer but also more visually appealing. The lights would improve the ambiance, allowing visitors and devotees to appreciate the monastery’s architecture. Further, these would facilitate various programmes and events that are organised at the monastery in the evening.
Anuradha expressed gratitude to the officials and employees of the Tourism Department for their efforts in making the project a reality. She said that the lighting were part of a broader initiative to promote tourism in the region.
At the ceremony, Lobzang Lama, head of the Kaza Monastery, honoured the MLA with a Thangka painting, a traditional Tibetan art form, as a token of appreciation for her support.
Earlier, the monastery management committee welcomed the MLA with a ceremonial scarf (Khatak) and provided her insights into various activities conducted at the Buddhist temple.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kaza, Rahul Jain, Tribal Advisory Committee members Kesang Rapchik and Chevang Rigzin, and SDM Shikha attended the event.
