2 teachers killed, 2 injured as car plunges into gorge
Two teachers were killed and two were critically injured after the car they were travelling in veered off the road and plunged into a gorge near Tyari bridge on the Khadamukh-Holi road in Bharmour on Tuesday. Chamba Superintended of Police Abhishek Yadav said the mishap took place when the teachers were returning from an Under-19 sports competition at the Government Senior Secondary School, Holi.
The deceased were identified as 57-year-old Dilip Kumar, a resident of Saraina Rakh village, and 55-year-old Naveen Kumar from Jabbal village. Dilip Kumar died on the spot, while Naveen Kumar, a primary school teacher, succumbed to his injuries on way to the hospital. The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.
The two injured teachers, Kamlesh Kumar, a resident of Holi village, and Jarm Singh from Kalaha village, have been shifted to Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College (RPGMC), Tanda, where their condition is said to be stable.
Local residents, upon hearing about the crash, rushed to the scene and began rescue operations besides informing the police.
The police have registered a case and are conducting an investigation into the cause of the accident. The bodies of the deceased were handed over to their families after a post-mortem.
