2 nabbed for extorting Rs 5L from Kharar realtor

The police arrested two suspects for allegedly extorting Rs5 lakh from a Kharar realtor at an upscale coffee cafe in Shiwalik Shopping Plaza on Thursday afternoon.
The suspects have been identified as Harjit Singh, alias Ganja, and Barinder Singh, alias Goldy. A case was registered against them under Sections 384, 385, 388, 506, 34 and 120-B of the IPC at the Kharar City police station on June 24. The duo had been sent to three-day police remand.
Kharar City SHO Ashok Kumar said: “A case has been registered against the duo. The matter is being investigated by the CIA staff.”
The complainant, Parveen Kumar, stated that the duo, in their late 30s, had been threatening him for the past four months. They had extorted Rs50,000 from him a month ago. Three days ago, the duo came in an SUV and took him along. They threatened him of dire consequences and took Rs1 lakh.
On June 24, the duo asked the realtor to meet him at a coffee shop with Rs5 lakh. The 37-year-old realtor informed the police, who arrested the duo on the spot.
Cases of extortion and theft are already registered against the suspects at various police stations, sources said.
