Moga, June 25
The Moga police have booked ASI Prabhdyal Singh and head constable Gurwinder Singh of the local police for helping gangster Sukhdool Singh alias Sukha Duneke obtain a passport and police clearance certificate on forged documents in 2017 to flee to Canada even as seven criminal cases were registered against him.
The case has also been registered against Duneke.
An FIR under Sections 420, 467 and 468 of the IPC and Sections 10(3)(B) and 10(3)(E) of the Indian Passport Act has been registered against them at the police station (rural), a senior police official said.
The cops are yet to be arrested.
According to the details, in 2017, ASI Prabhdyal was posted as a passport inquiry officer while Gurwinder was posted at the police station (rural) here.
The cops were accused of clearing the name of Duneke during the passport verification in 2017 even as he had at least seven cases registered against him. The passport was issued to Duneke on the basis of a police report and he managed to obtain a Canadian visa in the same year and fled to Canada.
Duneke has since been orchestrating crimes in Punjab and nearby states through his associates and figures in the most wanted list of criminals in the state.
On March 14 this year, Duneke conspired to kill kabaddi player Sandeep Singh Nangal with the help of his associates during a kabaddi match at Mallian village in Jalandhar.
Recent findings of the anti-gangster task force of the state police suggest that Duneke has been aiding, funding and strengthening the Devinder Bambiha gang in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan. He is also inclined towards the pro-Khalistan outfits, but, mostly makes calls for extortions and indulges in ‘supari’ killings. More than 20 criminal cases of murder and other heinous crimes have been registered against him in Punjab and nearby states.
The current criminal case against the two cops and the Canada-based gangster has been registered by the local police on a complaint forwarded to the Moga SSP by the ADGP of anti-gangster task force on June 11.
Terminated and reinstated
The services of ASI Prabhdyal Singh and head constable Gurwinder Singh were terminated by the Moga SSP after a departmental inquiry in April 2021. They were found guilty of helping Duneke to obtain a passport and flee to Canada. But the cops filed an appeal against the termination orders, which was marked to a DIG-rank officer. The DIG reinstated them in the service by stopping a few increments.
At present, ASI Prabhdyal is posted on a special naka at Himmatpura village in Nihalsinghwala sub-division of the district while Gurwinder is serving in the district police lines.
