2 members of extortion gang arrested
In a major breakthrough, the Jalandhar Rural Police have arrested two members of an inter-district extortion gang involved in an extortion attempt.
The Nakodar police team recovered a pistol, ammunition, a mobile phone with a SIM card, a car, and a motorcycle from the accused.
The arrested accused have been identified as Gursevak Singh, a resident of village Chak Bahmaniya, and Sunil Kumar of Karol Bagh, Kot Ramdas, Rama Mandi, Jalandhar, currently residing in village Saidpur.
Speaking to the media, SSP Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh stated that the arrests were part of a specific campaign against extortionists, looters and other anti-social groups.
SP, Investigation, Jasroop Kaur, and DSP, Nakodar, Sukhpal Singh oversaw the operation, while incharge, CIA staff, Inspector Pushp Bali and Inspector Aman Saini, SHO, City Nakodar Police Station, headed the police squad.
On December 2, an extortion attempt was reported in Nakodar targeting a doctor. Acting promptly, a case was registered and within 24 hours, the accused were arrested near Saidpur Jhri village in Shahkot.
Initial investigations indicate that the accused were involved in multiple extortion plans and may have connections to other criminal activities. Efforts are being made to identify their links.
The arrested accused will be produced in the local court today and their remand will be sought for further investigation.
SSP Khakh announced a zero-tolerance stance against extortion. The Jalandhar Rural Police are determined to take stern action against extortion and other crimes that jeopardise public peace and security.
