2 kg gold seized from passenger at airport
The Customs Department at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport have recovered 2 kg of gold worth Rs 1.5 crore from a passenger, who arrived here, from Dubai. The department arrested the passenger and initiated further investigation into the matter.
According to information, the passenger arrived at the Amritsar airport from Dubai by a SpiceJet flight.
When department officials’ noticed suspicious activities of the passenger, they intercepted him. The passenger was served a notice under Section 102 for his personal interrogation. After thoroughly searching the passenger, 2,674 grams of gold was recovered from him.
An official said 24 carat gold was converted into paste form and stashed in four packets. The passenger had hidden these packets in his undergarments and tied them around his both knees. The passenger was arrested under Section 104 of the Customs Act, 1962.
