The state government has said that firecrackers can be burst for two hours (between 8 pm and 10 pm) on Diwali night (October 31).

A spokesperson for the government said the limited-time window for bursting firecrackers during the festive season aimed at curbing pollution.

On Gurpurab (November 15), bursting of cracker would be allowed from 4 am to 5 am and then from 9 pm to 10 pm. On Christmas and New Year Eve, firecrackers can be burst from 11.55 pm to 12.30 am.

The state government has also issued comprehensive regulations governing the sale and use of firecrackers during the festive season.

The spokesperson cited orders by the Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal issued periodically for states’ compliance regarding firecracker use. Only “green crackers” (those free from salts of barium, antimony, lithium, mercury, arsenic, lead etc) are permitted for sale and use.
