2 dead after driving SUV into flooded underpass in Faridabad
Two private bank employees have died after getting trapped in their sports utility vehicle in the flooded Old Faridabad Railway underpass here, police said on Saturday.
The incident happened late Friday night when the victims — Punyashree Sharma and Viraj Diwedi — were coming from Gurugram. The underpass had got flooded due to heavy rain.
According to officials, the victims travelling in an XUV 700 entered the underpass, ignoring all warnings and got stuck in the deep floodwater, following which water gushed into the vehicle.
While both the victims were fished out after the vehicle submerged into the water, one of them died on the spot, said officials.
The rescue operation continued for over three hours and the local police stopped the movement of traffic at the underpass. Officials said the dewatering process of the underpass is going on.
Police said the bodies of the victims will be handed over to the next of kin after post-mortem examinations.
Meanwhile, similar underpass near Mewla Maharajpur village and several other roads in the city go waterlogged on Friday after heavy rain.
