Chandigarh: Two brothers have been arrested by the operation cell of the UT police for allegedly snatching a mobile phone. The suspects have been identified as Jarnail Singh (19) and Parvinder Singh (20), residents of Chunni Kalan village in Fatehgarh Sahib. They were arrested from near the Police Lines in Sector 26. The mobile phone has been recovered from them. The complainant, Harish Singh, a resident of Sector 32, had reported that three miscreants riding a motorcycle had snatched his mobile phone on a cycle track on the road separating Sector 32 and 46 on April 6. A case in this regard was registered at the Sector 34 police station. TNS

Fake number on car: Youth held

Chandigarh: The UT police have arrested Paramveer Singh (21), a resident of Sector 117, Mohali, while riding a car bearing a fake registration number. The police said the car had a Delhi number. However, the suspect had affixed a Mohali number plate on the car. He was arrested from Sector 36. The police have registered a case at the Sector 36 police station.

14 booked for rioting in Mohali

Mohali: The police have booked 14 persons, including the sarpanch of Rurka village, for rioting and causing voluntary hurt over a land dispute. Five persons were injured. Three were admitted to the Phase 6 Civil Hospital. A case under Sections 323, 324, 341, 506, 148 and 149 if the IPC has been registered at the Sohana police station. The police have registered cross-FIRs against both parties for rioting and causing voluntary hurt. TNS

Tennis meet begins today

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association will organise CLTA-AITA Championship Series (CS-7) Tennis Tournament for boys and girls (U-12 and U-16) from April 18 to 22. As many as 83 players have signed in for the main draw events. Players from Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Telangana will take part in the tournament. Boys’ main draw matches will be played at the CLTA Complex, Sector 10, on April 18. TNS

LWCC lads log 9-wkt victory

Chandigarh: Livewire Coaching Centre (LWCC) defeated Suraj Enterprises by nine wickets in the Main Bhi Bhagat Singh T-20 Cricket Tournament. Batting first, Suraj Enterprises scored 75 runs before being bowled out in 13.2 overs. Ansh (16), Anish (13) and Raju (11) were the main scorers for the side. Dr Luthra claimed three wickets, Shubham took two and Harvinder Nain, Pankaj, Gurpreet Singh and Amit Gandhi claimed one each for the bowling side. In reply, Divyank (49) and Luthra (16) helped the team win the match. Luthra was adjudged Man of the Match. TNS

Mohali: The police arrested a Sohana youth with seven stolen mobile phones and a bike on Sunday. The suspect, identified as Harpreet Singh (19), was booked under Section 379 of the IPC at the Mataur police station on April 15. The suspect was produced in a court and sent to two-day police remand. TNS

Snatching bid case registered

Chandigarh: Two unknown motorcycle-borne miscreants tried to snatch a mobile phone in Sector 53. According to the police, the complainant, Raghubir Singh, a resident of Kansal village, reported that the suspects tried to snatch his mobile phone near the link road in Sector 53. The police have registered a case. TNS
