195 panchayats elected unopposed in Jalandhar
Ahead of the panchayat elections scheduled for October 15, 195 panchayats have been elected unanimously in the district.
DC Himanshu Aggarwal said in Lohian Khas block 28 panchayats were elected unopposed, followed by Jalandhar West with 25, Phillaur with 24 and Nakodar with 20. Other blocks, including Shahkot, Bhogpur, Nurmahal, Rurkan Kalan, Mehatpur, Adampur and Jalandhar East, have also seen unanimous elections with 19, 17, 15, 14, 13, 11, and 9 panchayats, respectively.
Aggarwal said after the withdrawal of nomination papers, 1,662 candidates for sarpanch and 5,464 for panch remained in the fray.
Likewise, stay orders of the court will be effective on the election in four villages. He emphasised that the district administration had made comprehensive arrangements to ensure fair poll.
