19 suggestions adopted for rabi crop during agriculture officers’ workshop at HAU

During the two-day state-level agriculture officers’ workshop held at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, 19 new recommendations were adopted for farmers of rabi crop. The workshop concluded here on Thursday.

Vice-Chancellor Prof BR Kamboj was the chief guest during the concluding session of this workshop. The agriculture officers from across the state and the scientists of HAU discussed in detail about the overall recommendations of rabi crop, highlighting their technical aspects.

Prof Kamboj said 19 recommendations had been accepted in the workshop, which included one for wheat crop, two for spring maize, one for lentils, one for fodder oats and one for medicinal crop, bakla. Farmers would benefit from these recommendations, which were made jointly by the scientists of HAU and the officials of the department of agriculture and farmers welfare in the workshop, he said.

The VC said the agriculture-related recommendations given in this workshop would give further impetus to the work being done by the Central and state governments to increase the income of farmers. The VC called upon the scientists to understand the problems of small landholding farmers properly and conduct research on the solution to those problems.

The 19 recommendations include WH 1402, wheat variety for drought tolerance and suitable for early sowing. The average yield of WH 1402 is 20.1 quintals per acre. This variety is highly disease-resistant and is of excellent quality. Besides, a single cross hybrid variety of maize (IMH 225) with yellow grains and medium duration that gets ready for harvest in 115-120 days in spring. This variety has been found to be resistant to major diseases and pests of maize at the national level and has an average yield of 36-38 quintals per acre.

Additional Director of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department Dr RS Solanki, along with the scientists of the university and officers of the department, was present on the occasion.
