Amritsar: 17-year-old boy dies after thrashing by girl’s family

15 booked for murder, kidnapping and illegal detention

A 17-year-old boy died due to internal injuries days after he was thrashed by family members of a girl with whom he had been in relationship.

A judicial probe is on in Ludhiana as the boy died in judicial custody at Bal Sudhar Ghar there. The post-mortem of the deceased was conducted at the Ludhiana Civil Hospital in the presence of magistrate and his body handed over to the family. The victim, Rohit Masih, a city resident and the girl had run away on June 24. They were later traced and kidnapped by the girl’s family. The suspects thrashed the victim and also captured it in a video.

The boy was later produced in a court which sent him to Bal Sudhar Ghar in Ludhiana. He complained of severe internal body pains and died in a hospital on July 4.

Following the complaint submitted by his father Major Masih, the police have registered a case of murder against 15 persons in this connection.

Among those booked included Jorge Singh, Jaideep Singh, Labha Masih, Maanu Singh, Mintu Masih, Gulshan Masih and Chhabo, all residents of Chamiary village, Dilbagh Singh of Nava Pind in Jandiala, Karan and Gagan, both residents of Bhuregill village and five unknown persons.

Major told the police that Rohit was in relationship with a girl of the village. He said on June 24 Rohit, along with the girl, fled from the house. He said the girl’s family lodged a complaint with the Ajnala police which registered a case against his son. He said two days later, the suspects traced and kidnapped the boy and the girl. He alleged that the suspects brutally thrashed his son and made a video of the incident. He said they also kidnapped Rohit’s friend Danial who had helped them elope.

After thrashing Rohit and Danial both were produced in a court which sent them to Bal Sudhar Ghar in Ludhiana.

Major said when he met his son in Ludhiana on Thursday, he had complained of internal body pain. He said the same night his son died.

The police was waiting for the autopsy report, the SHO added.

He said a case under Sections 103, 140 (3) and 3 (5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered against the suspects. He said efforts were on to arrest the suspects.
