17 test positive for dengue in Abohar, awareness drive on

Seventeen persons tested positive for dengue at the Civil Hospital here. Nearly 300 persons were examined for the disease.

An anti-dengue larvae team is testing water sources and another team is educating residents of the town about symptoms of the disease.

District epidemic officer Sunita Kamboj said the Abohar area had been divided into four parts, each being covered by a 20-member team of breeding checkers and four health workers. So far, the second round of house-to-house survey for anti-dengue larvae had been completed. In total, 35,500 houses had been surveyed. As many as 240 challans were issued after dengue larvae were found at houses and other places.

Tehal Singh, overall incharge of the teams, said they were checking vessels, tanks, flowerpots, etc, for dengue larvae. Parks and construction sites were also being inspected. Besides, people were being made aware of measures to be taken to prevent breeding of dengue larvae.

Senior Medical Officer Dr Neerja Gupta said the campaign for dengue prevention would continue till December when the mosquito breeding season would be over.
