17 polling stations in Panchkula record above 80% turnout, all in villages

As many as 17 polling stations in the Panchkula constituency recorded more than 80% voter turnout and all of these were in villages. The constituency recorded 59.4% turnout, almost similar to 60.06% that was recorded in 2019. While residents of Asrewali village took the lead and ensured maximum at 94.3% polling, Chandimandir Cantonment recorded the lowest at mere 17.6%.

As many as 1,40,227 voters out of the total 2,36,193 electors cast their vote at 230 polling stations in the Panchkula segment. Asrewali, Jaswantgarh, Toka, Shyamtu and Rattewali (west) villages recorded the highest participation. Out of 439 electors in Asrewali, 414 exercised their right to franchise. Similarly, 92.5% voters (445 out of the total 481) of Jaswantgarh cast their vote, followed by Toka where 373 out of the total 409 voters showed up at polling station.

Shyamtu and Rattewali villages recorded 88.1% and 87.6% turnout, respectively.

On the other hand, only 17.6% turnout was recorded at Chandimandir Cantonment station. Merely, 168 out of the total 955 voters of the area came out to cast their vote yesterday. The other areas that recorded the lowest turnout included Sector 14 (north side) with merely 30.9% polling, Sector 14 (east side) 36.5% and Sector 20 (west side) 37.5%.

Local INLD leader Manoj Aggarwal said booth number 82 of Chandimandir Cantonment was set up for the first time. Only 100 men and 68 women from the area cast their vote.

The voter turnout in the constituency has remained relatively the same since Panchkula was newly carved-out of Kalka Assembly segment. Till 2005 Assembly elections, Panchkula remained a part of Kalka segment. The segment had recorded 57.59% turnout in 2009, the area’s maximum of 65.72% in 2014, and 60.06% in 2019. Meanwhile, out of eight third-gender registered voters in the segment, only one from near the Bir Ghaggar (west side) area cast vote.

Kalka’s voter percentage was on Sunday revised to 72.1%. While Kalka’s turnout remained similar to that recorded in 2019 (72.63%), as many as 11 polling stations recorded 90% or more polling. Though low in numbers, Gumthala voters ensured maximum participation with 97.5% turnout. As many as 115 voters out of the 118 from the area came out to cast vote.

Similarly, 97.2% residents of Sukhomajri, the village of Independent candidate Gopal Sukhomajri, came out to vote. Only 18 voters from the village comprising 632 electors did not vote. Apart from these, Jallah (96.6%), Ganeshpur (93.7%), Prempura (93.5%), Bans Balu (Bhoj Mataur) (92.5%) recorded the maximum turnout. Polling stations at Khol Fatehsingh, Naggal Ruttal, Majri Jatta, Janauli and Kajampur also recorded over 90% turnout.
