In a major operation spanning over two weeks, the Jalandhar police have busted an interstate gang of arms smugglers.

Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said they had nabbed 17 criminals, including Kannu Gujjar, a close associate of Jaggu Bhagwanpuriya.

Gujjar, kingpin of the gang, was brought from the Kapurthala jail on production warrant.

He said the accused had more than 38 criminal cases registered against them.

Sharma added that the police had recovered a huge cache of drugs and weapons from the accused, including 18 weapons, 66 cartridges and 1.1 kg of heroin.
