Despite seizure and destruction of thousands of litres of lahan stored along the Gang Canal on Abohar — Sriganganagar Road and near Chanankhera village on Abohar — Malout Road by joint teams of the police and Excise Department, illicit liquor continues to flow freely in the panchayat poll.

In one such incident, a resident of Bakainwala village set his room on fire allegedly under the influence of liquor, which he got during campaigning for the elections.

Excise Inspector Nirmal Singh said yesterday they had conducted a raid along Chanankhera Canal and seized 15,000 litres of lahan.
