150 cadets donate blood at agriculture university camp

A blood donation camp was recently organised on the occasion of National Cadet Corps (NCC) Day at Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Agriculture University, Palampur.

NCC cadets of the host university, Shri Sai University, Palampur, and Pandit Sant Ram Government College, Baijnath, donated blood during the camp.

Vice-Chancellor Naveen Kumar, in his address, called upon youngsters to donate blood and save human life.

He said the youth could play an important role in saving precious lives by donating blood once every three months. He praised the NCC Directorate for motivating youngsters to donate blood through the camp.

Student Welfare Officer Ashok Kumar inaugurated the camp. The NCC Officer of the university, Ankur Sharma, said the camp was organised under the guidance of Col Manish Modi, Commanding Officer of the 5th Himachal Pradesh Independent Corps National Cadet Corps, Dharamsala.

The camp witnessed the participation of 150 cadets, and 55 units of blood were collected from them. Subedar Santosh Singh (Himachal Pradesh Independent Corps, National Cadet Corps, Dharamsala), university health centre employees and Health Department, Dharamsala, officials were among those present at the event. In another programme, a Taekwondo session was organised for the volunteers of National Service Scheme.

Taekwondo coach Som Raj provided information to the students about basic techniques — kick, punch, block and self-defence — and said this was not only a sport but also an important means of maintaining self-defence and discipline in life. Student welfare officers, and NSS In-charges Anjali Sood and Dr Anjana Thakur were present at the event.
